I've always wanted a garden
The thought of dirt coating my hands excited me
I wanted that connection to the earth
To usher in new life
I planted my first seed
Carefully tucking it in
Through the dirt came a green beacon of hope
The smell of coffee in the morning was replaced by the smell of soil
By the time my day ended I was drowning in chlorophyll and allergies
I would get bouquets for my hard work
I traveled down each row collecting one after another
Eventually the bouquets stopped coming
Being replaced with weeds and bugs and the family of rabbits next door who had a love for buffets
I wasn't allowed entry to the banquet
